Environmental Dysfunctions, Childhood Maltreatment and Women’s Intimate Partner Violence Victimization
2017
International audience; Childhood maltreatment is considered a crucial explanatory variable for intimate partner violence (IPV) in adulthood. However, a developmental multifactorial model for the etiology of IPV is not shared by researchers yet. This study has investigated the role of a wide range of childhood maltreatments and family and social dysfunctions in predicting IPV; furthermore, it tests a model where childhood maltreatment mediates the relationship between environmental dysfunctions and IPV. The sample included 78 women: IPV (38) and non-IPV (40). The Italian version of the Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse (CECA) Interview was used to assess the presence of adverse childho…
The socialization of coping strategies in adolescence: the modeling role of parents
2020
Background and Objectives: The main aim of this study is to test the intergenerational transmission of the relations between coping strategies to well-being from parents to adolescents through the modeling of the coping strategies of the parents to those of the child. Methods: 154 cohabitating families composed by father, mother, and adolescent in age range between 14 and 18 (M = 16.40; SD = 1.53) took part to the research. To test the proposed model, SEM with observed variables and the integration of the APIM approach and the Bootstrapping approach was used. Results: Findings showed in both parents and adolescents significant positively relations between coping task strategy and well-being…
Breastfeeding initiation and duration in France: The importance of intergenerational and previous maternal breastfeeding experiences — results from t…
2019
International audience; OBJECTIVE: To assess the role of the mother's mother and mothers' previous personal experiences with breastfeeding and childcare in breastfeeding practices. DESIGN AND SETTING: The analysis included 13,774 mother-infant dyads from the French national birth cohort ELFE. Feeding practices were assessed by face-to-face interview in maternity wards in 2011, by phone interviews at months 2 and 12 post-partum and by Internet/paper questionnaires monthly from months 3-10. Sociodemographic, maternal and newborn-related factors were collected in the maternity unit and by postnatal phone interview at month 2. Multivariable logistic and linear regression was used to assess the …

Gender discrimination and intergenerational transmission of preferences
2004
This paper provides an explanation for the existence of gender discrimination in the labour market focusing on the intergenerational transmission of preferences related to the attitude of women towards jobs and family. Changes in women's preferences over generations depend on the socialization efforts of their parents which in turn are influenced by both the firm's expected recruitment policy and the expected utility from household care. We obtain two types of steady state equilibria: the discriminatory equilibrium, in which women are segregated to low-paid jobs, and the non-discriminatory equilibrium, in which women are hired in highly-paid jobs. The conditions of convergence to each equil…
La festa popular vicentina a València

EnglishThe article explores the historical evolution of the popular festival in honor of saint Vincent Ferrer in Valencia, analyzing its various phases: traditional feast, modern feast and contemporary feast. Likewise, the Vicentine miracles stand out as the central reference of the festive ritual sequence, together with the street sociability that made possible the intergenerational transmission of the party. Persistence of Occupational Segregation: The Role of the Intergenerational Transmission of Preferences
2007
This article provides an explanation of the evolution and persistence of the women's segregation in jobs with less on-the-job training opportunities within the framework of an overlapping generations model with intergenerational transmission of preferences. ‘Job-priority’ and ‘family-priority’ preferences are considered. Firms’ policy and the distribution of women's preferences are endogenously and simultaneously determined in the long run. The results show though the gender gap in training will diminish, it will also persist over time. This is because both types of women's preferences coexist at the steady state due to the socialisation effort of parents to preserve their own cultural valu…
2015
Early negative experiences could facilitate the formation of insecure internal working models and could deteriorate symbolic competence; in adulthood, attachment style could affect partner’s choice and parenting function. Current research on attachment intergenerational transmission shows that exposure to domestic violence is associated to maladaptive outcome in children. In order to give evidence to intergenerational con- tinuity of attachment we analyzed early traumatic experiences and attachment styles in a group of five family units, who were living in a Safe House for women and chil- dren escaped from domestic violence. The Adult Attachment Interview was adminis- tered to five mothers,…
Does family of origin make a difference in occupational outcomes?
2022
Disadvantages faced by parents adversely affect their children’s chances of success in the labour market. We study the influence of intergenerational transmission of parental socio-economic background on the educational attainment and occupational outcome of children, also considering gender differences. To tackle such a complex system of relationships across the outcome variables (both exogenous and endogenous), we adopt a path analysis model. In particular, we study the intergenerational transmission of disadvantage using the innovative and rich AD SILC database, which shows the evolution of occupational outcomes over eight years (measured by wages in 2011 and 2018). Our findings indicate…
